How is Employee Retention Rate Calculated?
Employee retention looks at how many of your employees are still with the company after a certain time period, usually one year.
Having a high retention rate and a low turnover rate has a number of benefits including less spend on recruitment, improved team morale and increased productivity. It's also an indicator for having staff who feel their wellbeing is looked after.
The calculation for your organisation's employee retention rate is ((final headcount - new hires) / initial headcount) x 100.
For example, if your company had 110 people at the start of the year, hired 10 people and had 105 people at the end of the year, your retention rate would be ( (105-10) / 110) x 100 = 86.4%.
